Tokyo 2020: Mike Brown Opens Camp With 49 Players

  As preparations for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics hits top gear, the chief coach of the Nigerian national basketball team, Mike Brown, has handed an invitation to 49 players. These players are expected to report to D’Tigers‘s camp in California, USA.

NBA star, Monte Morris, who plies his trade with Denver Nuggets headlines the list alongside the Miami Heat duo of Precious Achiuwa and Kz Okpala, Miye Oni and Udoka Azubuike of Utah Jazz, OG Anunoby (Toronto Raptors), and Jahlil Okafor (Detroit Pistons) who are all aiming to make their international debut for the Nigerian team at the biggest global sporting event. Coach Brown also invited other American-based players that were instrumental in the team’s qualification for the Olympics at the 2019 FIBA World Cup such as Al-Farouq Aminu (Chicago Bulls), Chimezie Metu (Sacramento Kings), Josh Okogie (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jordan Nwora (Milwaukee Bucks), Gabe Vincent (Miami Heat), and Dominican Republic-based Nigerian national team captain, Ike Diogu (Bameso).

It should be recalled that Nigeria was the first African nation to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. European based stars expected in camp include Elan Chalon of France star, Ike Iroegbu, Fuenlabrada of Spain’s Obi Emeghano, Zaid Hearst (Alba Fehervar, Hungary), Michael Oguine (BC Souffelweyersheim, France), Michael Gbinije (BC Nevèzíe, Lithuania), Ike Nwamu (Samara, Russia), among others.
