As the saying goes: “Time heals all wound.” This is the case of “the injury” Yakubu Aiyegbeni, A.K.A. “the yak”, gave the football loving Nigerians at the last FIFA world cup held in South Africa. The Blackburn hit man conspicuously failed to put the ball into an empty net. Before now, this has sparked irritation and hatred on the part of Nigerians, who know that had he scored, we would have being through to the second round. Now, almost two years gone, the former Everton striker is going strong for his present club, which have seen him put up to 16 goals in the net this season and gained a controversial call up to the super Eagles for her last match. The 29 year old goal poacher has proven his critics wrong especially those who thought his legs were already wearing out. Many would have bet against him making the super Eagles team again, but as the situation is now, Nigerian football lacks a competent and reliable striker. I will be surprise if the Yak is not included in our subsequent matches now that we have nations cup and world cup qualifying matches smiling at us.
