The Wedding Party 2 rakes in N20 million on Its First Day at the Box Office

After months of anticipation, the much talked about movie “The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai”, had its cinema release across Nigeria on Friday, 15th December 2017, and it didn’t disappoint as it broke grounds, setting a new record on its first day at the box office. The team have a lot to be excited about, from getting the movie sold out four weeks before its Arabian themed premiere to the celebrities that graced the event, and now to reportedly rake in million at its opening day at the cinemas. Richard Mofe-Damijo, an A-list actor, who featured in the movie went to Instagram to comment on the success of the movie: “Who says lightning doesn’t strike twice? History unfolds again”. Recall the first instalment of The Wedding Party, which came in at N9.6 Million and became the highest grossing movie in the history of Nollywood. The Wedding Party scooped a record-setting year at the Nigerian box office, grossing 3.5 billion Naira (around $11.5 million) in 2016, with nearly 30% coming from local pics, marking the first time Nigerian films have crossed the billion naira threshold. The Executive Producer Mo Abudu, disclosed that the movie generated N20 Million in its first day at the box office. “It has surpassed all our expectations and it’s been an incredible ride”, she said.       Feature image credit: newsheadlines.com.ng
