Since 2011, the fellowship has been awarded to outstanding Africans, particularly young professionals, mid-career, and new executives with relevant work experience. It selects three fellows from a diverse pool of applicants and places them with the executive offices of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, and the International Trade Center (ITC) in Geneva. The program lasts for 12 months, within which Fellows gain technical and leadership skills and get mentored by the heads of their host organizations (mentioned above).
Benefits
- Fellows will acquire crucial competencies, and directly contribute to research and policy design
- They will receive a $100,000 stipend for the duration of the program
- They will get mentored by leaders in the organizations they are placed with
- They also become members of the Now Generation Network (NGN), through which they will lend their skills towards improving leadership and technical capacities in Africa
Eligibility
Applicants should meet the following condition to be considered for the fellowship:- Have 7-10 years of relevant work experience
- Should possess a Master’s degree
- Must be less than 40 years old, or 45 years for women with children
- Have working experience in areas relevant to the partner organizations’ operations

Criteria For The AfDB
Fellows should:- Be an African national living anywhere in the world
- Have at least seven years of work experience relevant to the AfDB’s operations
- Have experience in policy formulation, strategic planning, project management, and execution
- Have a strong ability to analyze and interpret financial and other types of data
Criteria For The ECA
- Applicants should have at least seven years of relevant work experience
- They should be skilled at examining and reengineering procedures and operations
- Experience at formulating policies and executing strategies is required
- They should be able to interact with officials at all levels of government
Criteria For The International Trade Center
- Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Economics, Business, International Development, International Relations, or a related area
- They must have good knowledge of trade development and Trade-Related Development Assistance
- They should be able to analyze and interpret complex data
