The New Narratives Challenge (#NewNarrativesChallenge) is a video-based contest; that is, entrants have to submit a video that contains their story. It should be a one-minute Instagram video or 30 second Instagram reel. Participants are expected to state the country they are from in the video and use the hashtag #NewNarrativesChallenge. Their story should be about their culture, people, places, adventures, etc., and told to change narratives around these things.
Benefits
- A ₤500 prize will be awarded to winners. They will be paid the equivalent of the prize in their local currency
- The opportunity to share one’s unique story with the world
- Winners will also get publicity for their stories on the British Council’s website, social media channels, press releases, and other promotional marketing material

Eligibility
- Contestants must be between 18 and 35 years old as of the time of their entering the competition
- They must be residents of one of the selected African countries for the competition (including Nigeria)
- Videos can be made in any language, but the entrant needs to specify the language in their caption
How The Competition Will Unfold
Contestants are to post their stories on Instagram, using the hashtags #NewNarrativesChallenge and #NoToASingleStory. After reviewing the videos submitted, the selection panel will select the top ten videos. They will announce these winners, and contact them. The top ten winners will be asked to fill a form, provide photographs of them, and agree to terms and conditions. Their photographs will be used in publicity materials.
