Telecommunication Service Providers to Suspend Promotional Lottery

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), has instructed all mobile telecommunications service providers in the country to suspend all promotional short message service (SMS). The suspension is in order for the Government to use all telecommunication platforms for its anniversary (100 years) lottery games. This was signed in a statement by the Director General of the Commission, Mr Joe Ekpe in Abuja. He said that the suspension of the lottery schemes on telecom platforms took effect in January and will be on indefinitely. The anniversary (100years) lottery games is in conjunction with the celebration of the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern regions in 1914 by Nigeria’s first Governor-General, Sir Fredrick Lugard .The Federal Government selected Secure Electronic Technology Plc, (SET) as its anniversary lottery operator. These operations will run on five service providers, Airtel, Globacom, Etisalat, MTN and Visafone platforms.
