Teju Cole Joins Harvard University As Gore Vidal Professor of Creative Writing

It’s no small tale that Nigerians are doing extraordinary things in the diaspora, and these many achievements cus across different fields; entertainment, medicine, technology, academics, you name it. One of such many Nigerians is writer and academic, Teju Cole, who just recently joined Harvard University’s Department of English as the Gore Vidal Professor of the Practice of Creative Writing. Teju, who is a recipient of Germany’s International Literary Prize, was the Distinguished Writer in Residence at Bard College until this year. Though an official announcement is yet to be made on his appointment at Harvard, a page has been created for him on the university’s department of English website. Teju’s new Harvard page lists his education history which includes a B.A. from Kalamazoo College in 1996; a M.A. from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in 2000; and a M. Phil. from Columbia University in 2006. The page also contains a summary of the Nigerian’s four selected works in a column on the left. The books are: With his new appointment, the Nigerian will have his hands quite full as he is also currently the photography critic of The New York Times magazine.
