Tech Tuesday: FRSC to Introduce Speed Limiting Devices in June

FRSC is set to announce the instalment of speed limiting devices. We can officially look forward to safer roads with this great new initiative! The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has announced that it will enforce the instalment of speed limiting devices on all commercial vehicles nationwide from June 1, 2015. According to Star Africa, Akwa Ibom State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Ramalan Yerima made this announcement at a sensitisation forum in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. “With effect from June 1, the command will enforce the use of speed limiting devices on commercial vehicles to reduce road crashes across the country,“ he said. “Fleet operators are expected to install the speed limiting devices in all their vehicles to check drivers’ excessive speed. Once the speed limiting devices are installed, excessive speed will be forcefully reduced. “Drivers will be incapable of speeding over the limit with these devices in place. Apart from curbed crashes, we can also expect our roads to be in better shape,” he added. The official speed limit for all commercial vehicles on the highways is 90 km/h while that of private vehicles is 100 km/h.
