Super Eagles left back, Taye Taiwo has been accused of tax evasion while playing for Olympique Marseille of France.
According to reports, the defender who spent six successful seasons with the French outfit left about one million euros on unpaid tax between 2008 and 2011, and judicial proceedings have been promptly initiated to seize property of the Nigerian international estimated to be in the region of 600,000 euros.
The IRS claims that the sum of €120.29 under various charges has not been paid, including the income tax in 2008 and 2009, the estate tax in 2011 and the property tax of the same year.
Now, the recovery services management of public finances in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur are prepared to recoup the evaded tax from the player whose annual income was €2 million.
The tax lawyer, Mr. Bruno Lombard was also reported to have tried to reach Taiwo’s contact, a relative who lives in Marseille, but all to no avail.
Taiwo left Marseille for Italian giants, AC Milan on a free transfer in 2011 but failed to make any impact at San Siro and was quickly loaned out to QPR and Dynamo Kiev. He signed for Turkish club, Bursaspor on a three-year deal recently.
