It will be recalled that the jersey which was designed by global sports brand, Nike, in 2018 for the Super Eagles FIFA World Cup campaign in Russia, made a lot of waves as sports and fashion enthusiasts trooped to jersey stores to purchase the 1994 Super Eagles jersey replica. The jersey would go on to gain enormous reviews when it was time for the most dominant women’s football team in Africa to dorn it in France, which earned it a nomination in the jersey contest. It was hardly surprising when the jersey of the Super Falcons became the only one from an African country at the global showpiece to be shortlisted for the jersey poll which comprised of four nations, Australia, Germany, England, and Nigeria.

Australia emerged second on the poll with 21 per cent of votes, while England finished third with 15 per cent. A 2-0 victory over South Korea in the group stage of the World Cup was all the West Africans needed to advance into the second round for the first time since 1999. After enduring the loss to Germany in the 2nd round, the Super Falcons now have something to celebrate against the European giants that came last in the four-nation jersey ranking.
