Super Eagles Go Top Of Group A After Sao Tome And Principe

The Super Eagles of Nigeria moved top of Group A of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after a 10-0 win against Sao Tome and Principe in their second group game at the StadeAdrar, Agadir, Morocco on Monday, June 13, 2022. It was Jose Peseiro’s second competitive game in charge of the three-time African champions as they hit double-digits in goals scored against the Central African side.

SSC Napoli of Italy striker Victor Osimhen commanded a Man-of-the-Match performance with four goals and two assists as the Sao Tome and Principe defence line struggled to contain the pace and power of the former Lille of France forward. Nantes of France forwards Simon Moses was also brilliant in the game with a goal and an assist to his name, while TeremMoffi who also plies his trade in France with Lorient scored twice.

Leicester City of England star AdemolaLookmangot his first Super Eagles goal and assisted one of Osimhen’s strikes. OghenekharoEtebo who commanded proceedings in the midfield with Alex Iwobi also got on the scoresheet with a powerful freekick shot, while Watford FC of England star Emmanuel Dennis scored from the spot after being awarded a late penalty to make it 10-0.

In the other Group A game, Guinea Bissau played out a 2-2 away draw in Sierra Leone to occupy the second spot on the table. Jose Peseiro will be looking to build on the results of both AFCON qualifiers and improve the team ahead of the next qualifiers games in September, a two-legged clash against Guinea Bissau.
