Social Good Summit Lagos Was Focused On Generating Sustainable Conversations For The Global Good

Social Good Lagos on the 7^th Sept engaged over 200 youths, brought together a combination of experts, advocates, and entrepreneurs from the public and private sector to stimulate constructive conversations towards the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Social Good Lagos created a space for analysis, discourse, exchange and interaction of thought leaders and stakeholders in different vital aspects of society with the ultimate aim of generating formidable collaboration and durable solutions to Nigerian’s sustainable development challenges. The event which was themed ‘Bridging the Gap’ #2030Now and anchored by Bimbo Akinsanya featured 19 speakers and one performer Abraham Ologundulu, Co- founder of Social Good Lagos in his opening remarks said ‘The sustainable development goals is the people goal and we are passionate about localizing the global #2030Now conversation in Lagos because of the huge potential and position of the city in sub Saharan Africa and the continent at large. The beauty of the social Good Summit is not so much about the fancy nature of the events but about inspiring individuals to take action towards the SDGs. Special Guests; Orelope Adefulire , Senior Special Adviser to the President on SDGs represented by Rose Keffas, SA to Mrs Oreleope gave the keynote speech, about the office of the SDG in Nigeria and its journey so far and Edward Kallon; United Nations Resident Coordinator, Nigeria represented by  Oluseyi Soremekun, Communications Director, United Nations Information Center, Lagos in his keynote speech said that the ‘The shared vision of Social Good Lagos in getting today’s connected generation to leverage technology and new media to help create a better world aligns with the spirit of UNSG’s high level panel on digital cooperation. The summit speakers includes, Osayi Alile  who commented during her panel discourse that ‘You can’t push the business of social enterprise without collaborations and partnerships’,  Foluke Micheal also commented that ‘Social enterprises need data to monitor their goals, objectives and SDGs milestones’ Mories Atoki, stated that ‘There’s a huge gap in Nigeria even before the global goals came about and we need to develop ourselves’. She also emphasized that ‘As Nigerians we have to start exploring and investing in what we have in other to develop as a nation’ Another highlight of the summit was from the Environmental sustainability panel discussion, where the panelists spoke about Nigerian plastic pollution and the impact of agrowaste. Olawale Adebiyi commented that ‘Nigerian has to understand that plastic waste and CAN waste is valuable. So it’s a waste to wealth scheme thereby benefiting the lives of people and enlightened citizens’ Other speakers include Toyin Adesola, Babajide Duroshola, Alexander Orimolade, Banji Adejana, AfricanFarmer Mogaji, Jennifer Uchendu, Ademola Johnson, Umem Akpan, Jibike Faborode, Ujunwa Ojemeni,, Ugochi Obidiegwu, Vera Ikharea, and Irekpitan Okukpon.
