Nigerian music star, Douglas Jack Agu better known by his stage name Runtown, has launched his own music and entertainment outfit called Sound God Music Group. This is coming on the backdrop of his exit from Eric Manny Entertainment and the disputes that have followed between the star and his former record label.
The new company will be working on music and entertainment in its entirety with the objective of redefining the business of music in Africa. “Over time, we have been blessed with the talent and wisdom to apply it to use. It’s time we take it a step higher and carry the sound and the message to where it belongs; the top,” he said.
Runtown, who dreamed of being a professional basketballer at a much younger age, went into music while in Enugu before moving to Lagos in 2007. His debut single titled ‘Runtown’ was released the same year. He partnered with his longtime friend Phyno to set up Penthauz, the record label under which he recorded “Party Like It’s 1980” and “Activity Pikin”. The “Mad Over You” singer got signed on to Eric-Manny Entertainment but decided to terminate the contract in May 2016, citing breaches in their contract as his reason for leaving. The two parties have been involved in a series of legal battles since then.
Runtown has collaborated with several top artistes, including J-Martins, Timaya, Davido and Phyno as a singer, songwriter or producer. His music style consists of a mix of hip-hop, R&B, reggae and rap. He also has a single with Fekky titled “Unleash” to be officially released soon.
