On or before 23rd September 2019, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal will hand down its verdict in the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on supposed electoral discrepancies during the 23rd February 2019 presidential election.
Security Implications
Regardless of the outcome of the ruling, it is anticipated that supporters of the Buhari-led APC and the Atiku-led PDP will celebrate or protest across major cities, which might lead to clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies.
Stay aware and stay safe

- Subscribe to security alerts and monitor your social media pages (do not spread unverified news).

- School management should ensure children left in their care are safe at all times, and should communicate with parents to ensure children return home safely after school.
- Avoid conflict zones and if you happen to live in such areas, stay in doors as much as possible.
- Follow the directives issued by security/law enforcement forces.
- Should there be an exchange of deadly force where you are, lay on the ground flat on your stomach.
- To combat the effects of tear gas, soak a handkerchief in lemon juice or vinegar and keep it with you in a plastic bag at all times. Goggles are also helpful to have.
- Women are advised not to wear heels during this time and carry light handbags to make escape easier, if need be.
