Sade Adu’s Second Song in Eight Years Nominated For Oscars

Sade Adu‘s second movie soundtrack in eight years, ‘The Big Unknown’, has been shortlisted for ‘Best Original Song’ at the 2019 Oscars. The song which was released in November was Sade’s second movie soundtrack this year, following her eight-year hiatus. It was written for the Steve McQueen-directed mystery film; ‘Widows‘. Her first movie soundtrack for the year ‘Flower Of The Universe’ written for the film “A Wrinkle in Time” was released in February. “The Big Unknown” is an emotional song that gracefully captures the passion and intensity of the movie. The 59-year-old, whose band goes by her name, has won the Grammy four times, the last being Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 2011 edition. She has also won the American Music Awards and Brit Awards once each. Other songs shortlisted for the 2019 Oscars shortlisted include ‘All The Stars’ from Black Panther, by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, ‘Shallow’ by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper  from the movie ‘A Star Is Born’, as well as ‘Trip A Little Light Fantastic’ and ‘The Place Where Lost Things Go’ from the soon-to-be-released ‘Mary Poppins Returns’.
