Following the crisis in Eastern Europe as Russia and Ukraine exchange military fire, an estimated 5,000 Nigerians living in war-torn Ukraine have called out on the federal government to evacuate them. Despite the early warning signs of Russia’s imminent attack, the federal government did not take decisive steps in responding to their calls. It was a public outcry before the government released a communique that read that Nigerians were responsible for their security. This as well did not go down well with the public. Several Nigerians in Ukraine have taken to social media to narrate their ordeal, which was that after trekking for four hours to Poland’s border, they were refused entry.  In response to their stranded situation, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement titled, ‘Public Notice From The Nigerian Embassy In Poland,’ on Saturday. The statement read: “In light of the happenings in Ukraine, please be advised that all Nigerians crossing over to Poland would have a staff of the Nigerian Embassy waiting for them.
