Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and Paris Saint-Germain top gun Neymar analyzed briefly the top and surprise teams to look out for in the 2018 FIFA World Cup that is scheduled for mid-June.
The conversation came about while Pique interviewed the Brazilian star on the Players Tribune. They discussed the favorites for the 2018 World Cup, Neymar’s previous World Cup injury, previous tournaments and the teams that may most definitely cause an upset in Russia 2018, amongst other subject matters.
Neymar, presently the world’s most valuable player at €222 million euros opined that Iceland will definitely make a statement despite their low population and underdog status. After talking on a couple of other related topics, Gerard Pique asked the PSG star “Do you see yourselves as favorites?”
The footballer’s reply wasn’t different from what any football fan around the world would give ” I think not only Brazil — all national teams that have strong numbers, that have quality players — are favorites. Like Brazil, Spain, Argentina, France, Germany — these five teams, to me, are favorites.” Neymar said.
Pique responded to his reply “I think you are a slight bit above everyone else. I think us, Germany, Argentina, France are a little bit … we are all at a very similar level. And you — you are a bit above. Up top, you have a lot of firepower. You have Coutinho, Gabriel Jesus, you’re there.” He said.
Pique then asked Neymar ” Who do you think will be the surprise of the World Cup?”
The footballer gave an assertive reply ” Yeah, yeah … Iceland.”
Pique emphatically agreed with Neymar’s reply ” Iceland, eh? I was going to say the same thing.”
Neymar also added “You too? I watched one of their games and they played well. I liked it. They have to … they’ll surprise … Watch out.”
Nigeria will meet Iceland on June 22 at Volgograd Arena in Russia.
