Five times World Best Player, Lionel Messi, who also has the current record for highest goals scored in a world cup, has highlighted the faults of the Nigerian men’s senior football team, ahead of their group game in the 2018 World in Russia.
The Barcelona top gun criticized the Super Eagles as being very inconsistent in their game plans and execution.
The Argentines have won all four of their last meetings against the Nigerian side. Messi scored twice, in their last meeting against the Super Eagles, at the 2014 edition of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The FC Barcelona super star’s home country will be going against Nigeria for the fifth time, as they were drawn into the same group with two other top placed countries; Iceland and Croatia.
In an interview with FIFA online, the Argentine star was asked to analyse the strength and weakness of the teams in the same group as his country.
Speaking about the Super Eagles, Messi said, “One day they score four goals, the next one, they leave plenty of space for you to do anything.”
The player was referring to Nigeria’s performances in their last meetings, including the Messi-less international friendly that ended with Nigeria taking the upper hand and dominating the Argies.
Messi added, “It might seem easy, but Iceland are tough and well organised, while Croatia, they give you more room to play but they have great players.”
The Super Eagles will face the Argentines on Tuesday 26th June at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg Russia in the final round of group games at the Russia World Cup 2018.
