On Saturday, June 1, 2019, Anthony Joshua will defend his three world titles against Andy Ruiz Jr., at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Although Ruiz Jr has been largely categorized as the underdog and voted the least favorite to win the fight, the fighter believes he has uncovered Joshua’s secret and will use it against him when both fighters meet stateside.
Ruiz has only had one carrier title challenge, against Joseph Parker, which he lost, but has adopted a new strategy that he considers ‘the Joshua beater’.
Speaking to SkySports, the Mexican fighter said the only reason Joshua is the face of the heavyweight world is because he has his belts, which will change after their fight on Saturday.
“There are weaknesses. He is the best right now because he has the belts. But the guys he has fought? I’ve sparred with them and they wouldn’t want to fight with me.
“AJ has a style which will make me look impressive. Yes, he’s strong and big. But my style will take away his advantages. This is business. I have nothing bad to say about AJ. I am the challenger and he is the champion.
“There is respect between me and him – but inside the ring there will be no respect and I will try to win and knock him out.”
— Andy Ruiz Jr
Although the Mexican has only had a number of limited fights after his loss to Parker three years ago, fighters who have faced him have the same testimony: ‘Ruiz is a bad man in the ring’.
Ruiz is a hard hitter and he can take the punches well too, so we expect Saturday’s bout to be a very thrilling one.
May the force be with AJ as he looks to extend his 22 professional carrier fights unbeaten record and retain his belts.
