A Roundup of the New Media Conference, Lagos 2016

The New Media Conference has come and gone, but the memory would ever remain fresh in the minds of the participants as the impact of the event would go a long way in shaping the future. The event which held at Four Points by Sheraton Victoria Island Lagos on 27th of May 2016 had the theme Business Unusual: Nurturing a More Vibrant New Media Industry in Nigeria, and was organised by OloriSuperGal. This is the second edition of the conference which has the vision to create a unique opportunity to learn and network with senior leaders from the biggest brands in Nigeria.

The program began at 8:30am with registration, then a welcome speech by Ajibade Tosin, founder of olorisupergal.com and a wonderful keynote address by Lola Masha OLX country manager for Nigeria. The event was divided into 5 panels/sections where salient issues were discussed with a question and answer section at the end of each section.

The first panel looked into Creative Industries: Positioning for 10x Growth, had the likes of Chude Jideonwo, Co-founder & Managing Partner of RED, Adaora Mbelu, Head of Innovation at A2 Creative, Ono Bello, founder onobello.com and lead PR consultant at PR UNO, and Aibee Abidoye, Head, Strategic planning and Innovation at HotSauce as Panelist with Tope Balogun Co-Host Morning Crossfire as moderator.

The second panel which constituted of Aibee Abidoye, Subomi Plumptre of Leke Alder Consulting, Femi Falodun of ID Africa and Jumoke Okikiolu of Samsung West Africa had Bolanle Olukanni, Host of Moments, Project Fame, as its moderator and looked into Standardizing New Media Practice in Nigeria. The third panel discussed Green Media & Popular Culture: Using New Media for Sustainable Green Initiatives in Nigeria was comprised of Segun Adaju, CEO BlueOcean Nigeria, Kayikunmi Stefan, specialist energy and environment management, Bankole Temitayo, Prime Minister Green Campus Initiative and Olubunmi Ayodele Chief Communications Officer, Green Campus Initiative and it was moderated by Owoeye Josiah Abolade, Teaching Assistant at The Federal University of Technology Akure.

Panel Four, moderated by Sanusi Ismalia of TechSuplex, was comprised of Iyinoluwa Aboyeji of Andela, Bankole Oluwafemi of Tech Cabal and Chinedu Azodoh of Max.ng, and looked into the topic Driving Nigeria’s Socioeconomic Development via Technology. And finally, the fifth panel moderated by Princess Abumere, Entertainment Editor at Pulse Nigeria was composed of Joy Isi Bewaji, convener of The Conversation and Seun Onigbinde of YourBudgit, and they discussed Creating Powerful Social Movements in the New Media Age.

The event which was a huge success packed full from the beginning and witnessed a lot of thought-provoking and path charting conversation. Looking forward to next year’s edition.
