Okonkwo by Papiees is a local restaurant located in the heart of Abuja. It’s a great hangout spot. It has what my Igbo brothers would call the ebe ife niine n’eme (a fun and bubbly) vibe. I loved the wooden design of this restaurant and the airiness of it. However, I think the scenery and the ambiance can be better appreciated at night. At this time, the light comes on and showcases the beauty of this cabin and garden restaurant to the fullest.
Let’s take a moment and talk about the music because music and good food are the heart and soul of this restaurant. Music at this restaurant is mad oh! The DJ is the real deal. In fact, the vibe on Friday night is over the charts. Thus, Okonkwo by Papiees is the perfect place to do the ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ dance.
The food at Okonkwo by Papiees is great. You’ll find both local and continental dishes on the menu of this restaurant. However, South Eastern delicacies are a specialty here. So, prepare for an explosion of taste and flavours if you try any of their dishes. What’s more, the prices are as good as the food.
@abujafoodplug listed Okonkwo by Papiees amongst the top ten places in Abuja where you can comfortably dine with five thousand naira. My sisters and I went, we ate and we confirmed. Our party of three went for the South East specials. I ordered the Abacha with full Titus fish. My sister, Oliaku went for the Goat meat ofe akwu while my cousin, Ada asked for the roasted yam and potatoes and full Titus fish. All our food orders were less than five thousand. We all asked for the palm wine. It was fresh, sweet and chilled.
The only thing keeping Okonkwo by Papiees from being the perfect hangout spot is their service. It leaves much to be desired. The staff seem to have issues with crowd management. When the restaurant is filled to capacity, customers will wait till eternity before their orders are taken or delivered.
I don’t know if it’s because they are understaffed or because the staff lack service orientation. Whatever the case, management needs to address this issue as quickly as possible because shabby treatment of customers who are the heart of every hospitality establishment will eventually result in the death of the business.
