WhatsApp Last Seen is a timestamp you can see at the top of the screen on WhatsApp that shows when last you opened the app. Your contacts can check your last seen just by opening your chat with them, and they’ll have an idea of when you last opened WhatsApp. However, when a user comes online, the app displays Online in place of the last seen timestamp.
Although a small nifty feature, the Last Seen timestamp can be very useful in tracking friend’s whereabouts, and knowing when they’ve been gone too long for safety. It just happens that users can also use the feature to stalk their contacts, which most people find very discomforting.
So, if you wish to turn off your Last Seen timestamp in WhatsApp, follow the steps below.
Launch WhatsApp, and navigate to the Menu, which is represented by 3-dots at the top right corner of the app.
In the Menu drop-down, click on Settings
In the Settings, click on Account, and then Privacy.
Under Privacy, you will see the Last Seen option under Who Can See My Personal Info. Just tap on it and it’ll show you 3 options:
Everyone(info will be visible to all),
My contacts(Will not be visible to people other than your WhatsApp contacts), and
Nobody(No one can see the info and neither can you see their Last Seen info).
From there you can choose Nobody and voila, no one will be able to see your Last Seen info, and well, you can’t view theirs either.
You can follow the same steps on both Android and iOS.
