After 51 days spent away to the country, President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria to resume duties as the nation’s Commander In Chief.
President Buhari was flown into an air force base in Kaduna this morning. He then boarded a helicopter which was expected to fly him to Abuja.
A statement signed by Presidential Spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina and made public yesterday had confirmed reports of the President’s impending return, after a series of tweets from the president’s twitter handle had earlier broke the news. In it, Mr. Adesina said that the President appreciated “teeming Nigerians from across the country and beyond who had prayed fervently for him, and also sent their good wishes”.
President Buhari had left Nigeria on January 19, 2017, for a medical vacation in the United Kingdom. His return to the country was originally scheduled for February 6, but his period of absence was extended following recommendations by doctors that he take further tests.
During his time away from Nigeria, President Buhari had been in contact with some government officials and had received chieftains of the All Progressive Congress (APC), including Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Bisi Akande, at the Abuja House in London. Only yesterday, he was visited by Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the global Anglican Communion.
