President Buhari Approves Establishment Of Three New Federal Polytechnics In Nigeria

The establishment of academic institutions is part of the government’s plans to revitalize polytechnics in the country.

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has given approval for the establishment of three new federal polytechnics in different parts of the country. This information was made public in a statement by the Director of Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Ben Goong, on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. The director revealed that the polytechnics will be located in Kano, Abia, and the Delta States.

“In line with his determination to make tertiary education more accessible, President MuhammaduBuhari (GCFR) has approved the establishment of three New Federal Polytechnics in the country,’’

the statement disclosed.

“The polytechnics are to be sited in Umunnoechi in Abia State, Orogun in Delta State and Kabo in Kano State.”

MrGoong went further to reveal that the new academic institutions will commence operations in October 2022. With this development, the total number of federal polytechnics in Nigeria is now thirty-six, ensuring that every state of the federation has one polytechnic located in it as the government continues with efforts aimed at improving tertiary education in the country.

Interestingly, Buhari’s approval for the new institutions comes a few weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) threatened to embark on a strike action if the Federal Government fails to revitalize existing federal polytechnics in the country.
