Presidency Hosts National Council of Traditional Rulers

President Buhari and his Vice President Yemi Osibajo hosted the National Council of Traditional Rulers in the State House, Abuja on September 11, 2017. The National Council of Traditional Rulers were led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammed Abubakar 11. The President while receiving the Council expressed his gladness over the weather. He is excited about the rainy season as the absence of that would have had him relocating to another country. Furthermore, he reflected that the current economic hardship was self-inflicted as it resulted from the mismanagement of resources over the earlier years. The President assured that he would continue to implement programs that would aid the improvement of the citizens’ lives. The Sultan of Sokoto in his reply expresses his gratitude to God for bringing back the President and therefore urges him to act fast. He conceded that he and his council would continue in their sermon for peace, transparency, justice, anti-corruption among others. Moreover, at the meeting, the Ooni of Ife Adeyeye Ogunnusi, spoke on behalf of the South Western people. He reemphasized the pledges of the citizens in supporting the Buhari- led administration. He added that the rulers would continue cautioning the youths of the region against hate speeches. Jaja of Opobo spoke on behalf of the Southern South region, he admonished the President to fix the economy. The Chairman of South Eastern Traditional Council Ebere Dike expressed his sadness over the Presidency’ nonchalance in addressing the region’ issues. For him crying to the government is a way of getting the government’s attention over pressing issues. Other traditional rulers also spoke at the banquet. This is a step in the right direction as traditional rulers have made a positive impact towards the community development which in turn advances in nation building. They are the agents involved in transforming the attitude of the rural people provided the people are answerable to a titled traditional ruler. This partnership is best as the best use of traditional rulers can help in the progress of the nation as the rulers’ familiarization with government policies and implementation would improve mobilization of their subjects.
