Power And Powers: The Power of Uche James Iroha’s Lenses
Staff Writer
Sounds of generating sets greet you almost everywhere you go in Nigeria; our leaders have failed over the years to deliver in the power sector. Sometimes one wonders why Nigeria, which is by far the most populous nation in Africa with vast human and material resources and enormous potential, still has electricity as one of the greatest challenges facing the country.
Nigeria’s electricity problem has been on for ages, with erratic power supply- it is a reality of deceit, where political office seekers clearly use the promise of electricity as a bait to get elected in office. Uche James Iroha approaches this situation with his camera lenses to create a body of work to highlight how, despite past and present government’s efforts to correct the problem, it still appears unsolvable. Power and Powers is a conspiracy theory in two folds: political and the distribution of electricity.
Power and Powers is largely a critique of a corrupt government that proffers artificial solutions to the persistent issue of electric power supply. It serves as a springboard for confronting issues that continue to face Nigerians today.
