By Nehi Igbinijesu.
Calabashes, vats and bins
Niftly seated in wipes and sniffs
One quirky moonlit night
And not a Spirit in sight
Bemused! Bereft! Beset!
All at once?
By the spirited dark light
Of reveries along ago
Of cries that brought mirth once
With toddles and strides
Then stress!
Becoming a man
Then a king
And now- a child
Departing in fleeting breath
Three score and ten
Was it?
But whence hath life first learnt?
In each day savoured
In each grime and streak
In the moments
My children
For father lives
In words and thoughts
Yet in you
Yet helpless
On his deathbed!
This Poem is part of the anthology of 30 Poems titled: “Dirges of The Niger” By Nehi Igbinijesu.
