President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly directed the Ministry of Aviation to establish a new national airline, according to The Nation.
The directive was given on Wednesday, August 5
th during a briefing by officials of the Aviation Ministry at the Presidential Villa in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The organisation’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Binta Bello was also present.
Bello told journalists that the president was worried about the country not possessing a national air carrier, and in response, requested the establishment of a new airline.
She said: “The president has directed the ministry to look into the possibility of having a national carrier as soon as possible.”
The Ministry is also currently constructing four state-of-the-art, modern airports which will be in place by 2016. Expansion will ensure the facilities’ accommodation of the Airbus 380 airplanes, matching the standards obtainable in the largest national airports.
