Enugu State is known for its beautiful serene and cultural diversity. The state is popularly called the ‘Coal City’ due to its rich coal deposit which was mined in the 1912’s to foreign countries. Located in the Southeastern part of Nigeria, Enugu state was created on the 27th of August 1991 from part of the old Anambra State and derived the name Enugu from “Enu-ugwu” which means (on top of the hill). Besides the State’s popularity with coal and involvement with agriculture, it is also a haven for tourist destinations. It provides visitors captivating sites for business activities and leisure, with notable sites like; the waterfalls ( Ngwo pine forest, Awhum waterfall), hills (Milken hill, Silicon hill), cave (Eziagu tourist complex), gardens, among others. Looking for what to do in Enugu? here are some of the fun sites to visit: The Ngwo Cave and Waterfalls; found at Ngwo Pine Forest, a heavy waterfall descends from limestone rocks on top of the hill, and the waterfall forms a shallow pool at the cave floor before flowing out like a stream. Asides the waterfall, there are other caves that are hidden in the rock, you can access some by climbing the hill while some are within reach. Ezeagu tourist complex; This is another Site that will be worth checking out if you find yourself in Enugu. It comprises of a body of water, a lake, natural spring, and a cave that stretches for three kilometres long. This spot is a fascinating venue as it attracts several visitors and tourists from across Enugu and beyond. Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium; Every football lover, going to the stadium will be a time well spent. You can go and watch the Enugu Rangers as they give you some mind-blowing display of football skills. They are situated hundreds of meters above sea level, and underneath these hills are the coal mines where coal mining took place. There are also several tunnels that you can climb into to have a feel of what natural coal mining is all about.
