Merely weeks after the Governor of Lagos State complained about the deteriorating state of the Oshodi-Apapa expressway, a major highway that links the nation’s busiest sea ports to other parts of the country, it was announced on Sunday that the phase II stage of the reparation of the road is soon to commence; phase I having been completed.
“We have several projects in the South West on our priority list for 2013, but the immediate ones are the Lagos/Ibadan Access rehabilitation and the Phase II of Oshodi/Apapa Expressway construction,” stated Kabir Abdullahi, the Director of Federal Highways.
He went on to say that the project would be handled by Julius Berger Plc. Messrs Borrini Promo Nig Ltd are currently working on the other stretch of the road.
“We are in the process of avoiding the contract and we hope that by next week, the process for the award will be completed. Julius Berger would be handling it and God willing, would start work on the bad portions of the road in a couple of weeks.”
In preparation of the reparation, Mr. Godwin Eke who would be supervising the project, says that the phase II would cover 3km, starting from the Cele area to link to Sanya bus stop on the Apapa side. He reassures the public that the government is aware of the heavy usage of the road, and hence the project would be carried out with strong materials
