In an official statement, Akosile conveyed the Lagos State Government’s warm reception for Pelumi, describing her solo drive as an extraordinary feat. He noted that Pelumi was greeted at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border by officials representing the Lagos State Government, including the Honorable Commissioner of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and the Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts, and Culture. Upon her arrival at the University of Lagos, Pelumi was welcomed by the Vice Chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, who praised her resilience and spirit. During the reception, Ogunsola emphasized Pelumi’s courage in undertaking such a challenging journey, spanning 17 countries, and commended her as a symbol of the Nigerian spirit.

Pelumi, a travel content creator, set out on her solo trip to Nigeria from London on January 30, 2024. However, just two weeks before she arrived in Lagos, she encountered a severe car accident shortly after entering Liberia. Videos of the aftermath were shared on Pelumi’s social media platforms, showing her receiving medical care in the hospital emergency unit.

Despite the accident, Pelumi showed remarkable strength and determination. After being discharged from the hospital, she promptly arranged for repairs to her damaged vehicle. Akosile praised her resilience, highlighting Pelumi as a testament to the strength of women.
