Africa Top Sports

Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, has vowed to keep working hard amidst an impressive start to the 2021/2022 season for his Italian club, Napoli.

Osimhen was subject to criticism after receiving a red card in Napoli’s first 2021/2022 Serie A clash against Venezia, but the former Lille OSC forward has since put that set back behind and scored 5 times in 5 games across all competition for the Partenopei. Osimhen, 22, has been in superlative form for the Luciano Spaletti side, scoring for the third consecutive time with a brace in Napoli’s 4-0 bashing of Sampdoria on Thursday, September 23. Reacting to his recent form, Osimhen noted that he is “really happy” and expressed appreciation towards Spaletti for believing in him.

‘It was important for me to start the season well and I want to thank the coach for his confidence in me. I’m honoured to play for this club. Last year I had Covid and then got a bad injury. I’m in good shape this season. I’m training consistently and I’m listening to the advice the coach gives me and the help I get from the team. I’m pleased with what I’m doing but I know I need to continue working hard. We all need to continue down this track.’ Victor Osimhen
Osimhen has equally been impressive for the Nigerian national team. He scored a crucial equalizer for the Super Eagles in a 2-1 World Cup qualifiers win over Cape Verde in the last international break and will be hoping to continue with his brilliant form in the green and white jersey when Nigeria take on the Central African Republic in a two-legged 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October.
