Osimhen, 22, injured his calf in the Partenopei training last Saturday, October 30, and was forced out of the clash against the Garnets as tests revealed that he suffered a gastrocnemius contracture in his right calf. However, the former Lille OSC of France man has made remarkable progress and resumed training on Monday, November 1, ahead of Napoli’s Europa League clash against Legia Warsaw on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Coach Luciano Spaletti will not rush the Nigerian into the Europa League clash, but he is expected to start on Sunday, November 7, against Hellas Verona. If Osimhen fails to feature in both games for Napoli, he might withdraw from Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers games against Liberia and Cape Verde this November, to focus on his recovery.

The inclusion of Osimhen in coach Gernot Rohr’s 24-man list for the World Cup qualifiers signalled hope to fans that he will available for selection again in no distant time. Nigeria will be banking on his superlative form when the Super Eagles travel to Morocco for their clash against Liberia on Saturday, November 13, before returning to Lagos for their last group game against Cape Verde on Tuesday, November 16.
