Nigerian football legend, Emmanuel Amunike, has opined that young stars like the duo of Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze be given more playing role in the Super Eagles.
Osimhen, who hit a brace during his league debut with Lille, has become an instant hit after joining the French side in this summer’s transfer window. Samuel Chukwueze’s pace and dribbling skills has caught the eyes of the world as the Villareal CF of Spain winger made it to UEFA’s Top 50 list for young stars to watch out for in the 2019/2020 season. Both players were part of Amunike’s victorious Under 17 Eaglets during the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Victor Osimhen, for us is a good player, a player that came under me with Chukwueze at the U17. But now, they are growing and have gone to the AFCON with the senior national team. Of course they might not get enough games but they have been exposed…
For me Osimhen is a good player. We need to believe in our young players we need to continue to encourage them, continue to see how they can grow. Even if Ighalo comes back today there will be a day that he will retire so, if you don’t prepare the new generation when the old ones retire when will you start?
