Today, May 8, 2020, is the birthday of Nigerian football legend, Onome Ebi. The Super Falcons of Nigeria defender has seen good wishes troop in from the football world with the Nigerian Football Federation and FIFA leading the line in celebrating the African football legend.

Onome Ebi who clocked 37 today currently plies her trade with Chinese side, Henan Huishang, and is notable for being the first African player to feature in five FIFA World Cup tournaments (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019) in a career that has spanned over two decades.

A four-time winner of the African Women Cup of Nations with the Nigerian national female football team, she has also made 81 appearances for the Super Falcons. Ebi who also featured for Nigerian domestic league sides like Omidiran Babes and Bayelsa Queens before travelling to Europe to foster her career at Sweedish side, Pitea, and then Djurgardens, would go further to play for other European sides like Duvenciler Lisesispor and Atasehir Belediyespor, where she won the Turkish Women’s First Football League on two occasions. Onome Ebi also spent three years at Belarusian side, FC Minsk, where she won the Women’s Premier League, Cup and Super Cup. The celebrant has been with her current club, Henan Huishang since 2018 and is a key player for the club despite her age.
