Enugu Rangers won its eighth Nigerian domestic league title brilliantly after beating Bendel Insurance 2-0 at home with a game to spare. Goals from Kenechukwu Agu and Chidiebere Nwobodo were all the Enugu-based side needed to win an eighth league title. Interestingly, only Enyimba FC of Aba has more domestic league titles than Rangers. Enyimba has won nine league titles, while Rangers have won eight, a gap the Antelopes will push to cover up next season by defending their title.

Rangers was founded in 1970, shortly after the Nigeria-Biafra war, and Enyimba was founded six years later, in 1976. Both clubs maintain a strong rivalry, popularly known as the Oriental Derby. The rivalry got intense this season as both sides contested for the league title, but Rangers came out stronger as coach Fidelis Ilechukwu led them to domestic glory. Apart from successes recorded on the domestic front, Rangers have also enjoyed continental glory with an African Cup Winners’ Cup win in 1977. Enugu Rangers is the only club in Nigeria’s top-flight league that has never been relegated.

Rangers have automatically qualified for the 2024–2025 CAF Champions League owing to their title win. Fans will be hoping that the club is back to its glory days and won’t go back into the wilderness like they did after winning the league in 2016.
