Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, has confirmed speculations that he may return to training this week after he suffered a knee knock injury. Speaking to CSN correspondent, Onazi expressed his eagerness to return to the field after missing Trabzonspor’s last three games, including a 0-0 draw away at Genclerbirligi on Saturday. The 25-year-old has suffered 13 injuries since May, 15th 2013, with knee issues coming up on multiple occasions. The defensive midfielder has stayed for about 223 days off the pitch due to the recurring cases. Onazi, who has been cleared to return to training before joining teammates in the next match, told Complete Sports News: “I had a slight knock on my knee, but I will resume training this week with the team,” “I need to be fully fit before returning,” he added. While Oghenekaro Etebo, who is also on loan to Las Palmas has been doing remarkably well in the Spanish league, his Nigerian teammate, Emenike is yet to make a debut for Las Palmas after suffering a knee injury during training. Emenike joined Las Palmas on a six months loan from Greek club Olympiacos at the end of the January transfer window, and has since not been able to play his money’s worth for the team. Las Palmas released a statement on their official website explaining Emenike’s present condition. During training last Thursday, the player felt a sudden pain in his right knee and has been taken for tests. “An MRI scan was conducted the same night which indicated the presence of an osteochondral lesion at the level of the internal femoral condyle and swelling of the internal lateral ligament,” Las Palmas explained. “Since then he has been under treatment to reduce the inflammatory process. Given the nature of the injury, it is difficult to indicate when he will be back in training although, it is expected that it won’t be too long,” they added. Featured Image Credit: www.dailypost.ng
