A common thing we do well in this part of the world is thanking GOD. Thanking our creator for answering our prayers or granting our requests, saving us from harm, helping us overcome insurmountable projects or tasks. We all have various reasons for giving thanks.
A couple of parents in my tribe, as a result of showing appreciation to what GOD has done for them, have christened their children as show of gratitude to their God. ‘Oluwaseun’, ‘Oluwamiseun’, ‘Modupeoluwa’, ‘Modupeola’ etc. Whichever name applies, they all glorify GOD’s goodness.
If I were to choose, I’ll pick Oluseun, a short form of ‘Oluwaseun’ ‘Oluwamiseun’. You’ll say that’s favoritism because ‘Seun seems to be my favorite cousin. Well, Seun Okunowo and I understand each other without even saying a word. Telepathy, you may say; we’re both like Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United’s best defenders in modern times.
A former colleague of mine, Busola Adesanya, was once confused about my name one day and called me Seun Osho. I responded by telling her my real name. She turned a deaf ear and ever since she’s been calling me Seun Osho. Not a bad name though; just that I can’t change names at this age and time. Considering an offspring having the name or a heartthrob called Seun. That’ll look like Busola’s playful prophecy coming to pass.
The news is I’ve got a good friend called Seun; I’m still considering laying my love on her. Laying my love all depends on her approval after all, I’m yet to ask her out. Time will tell whether I’m good for her and she good for me.
For now, we’re still friends. My cousin Omolara has notched me to take the step further. She wants to see her egbon get serious and walk the lady of his dreams down the aisle. She keeps ringing it in my ears: “No excuse, make it count!”
I Wish I could gather the strength to tell her that I’ve not presented my litany of love on a Power-point slide to Seun and gotten her approval to set the relationship ball rolling. While I have this assurance that my favorite cousin Seun would love to have her in the family in the event we are going out.
From all perspective, I’ll only try to do my best just to make sure everything works out fine.
It’s a new year; I just wanna Thank GOD I made the New Year. Here’s thanking GOD for everything that has happened in my life so far and those things that are about to happen. All I have to say is Oluwamiseun!!!Saheed Osho is a brand and communication strategist at Brand Believers Ltd. He enjoys watching soccer and is an avid supporter of Manchester United FC.
