NPFL Review: Tragedy Rocks NPFL Clubs

Nigerian football world was thrown into mourning yesterday, Sunday, March 22, 2020, after it was announced that Enugu Rangers star, Ifeanyi George, was involved in a fatal auto-crash which claimed his life. Information from Rangers’ media officer revealed that the Flying Antelopes star died on the spot after his car ran into a stationery articulated vehicle along Agbor-Benin road. 26-year-old Ifeanyi alongside two other players were returning to Lagos from Enugu owing to the corona virus induced break for clubs in the Nigerian league and the entirety of Nigerian football.

Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), Shehu Dikko, expressed shock at the players’ death and commiserated with his family, club management, team members and fans of the Nigeria Professional Football League giants.

We sympathise with the club at this trying time and pray for the repose of his soul and wish the injured ones a speedy recovery

Dikko went further to urge all Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) stakeholders to ensure they take all outlined precautions for their safety amidst the spread of the corona virus pandemic in Nigeria.

On another sad note, Enyimba FC of Aba player, Ekundayo Ojo was abducted by kidnappers yesterday along Benin-Owo expressway while on his way to Akure, Ondo state for the league break. Enyimba has since confirmed the incident and have been in close contact with the player’s family in such trying times.
