Anaemena, 28, was invited by Coach Gernot Rohr, to replace Bryan Idowu (passport issues meant Idowu could not team up with the squad) in the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers matches against Benin Republic and Lesotho in November 2019. Though he did not get to feature in any of both matches, he was very impressive in training. Fans of Anaemena, one of the best defenders in the NPFL, will be hoping that he maintains his fine display when he starts life at Rivers with the hope of another Eagles chance. Ifeanyi Anaemena joins teammate, Theophilus Afelokhai in Rivers United. Both players are expected to earn 1 million Naira and 1.2 million Naira respectively on a monthly basis.
