Nollywood Studies Centre to Organise Conference on Enhancing Nigerian Film Distribution

A two-day conference being held from the 26th of June at the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University Lagos by the Nollywood Studies Centre will explore ways of enhancing the distribution of Nigerian films. The conference is aimed at studying the various issues currently militating against the effective distribution of film materials in and outside of the country. It is expected that the conference will create a forum where industry practitioners, academics, financiers and government officials can come together to discuss key issues and propose solutions. Organisers said that Microsoft had pledged to support the event. Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, is a massive film industry which UNESCO declared as the world’s second largest film industry, just after India’s Bollywood and moving past America’s Hollywood by one step based on the number of films produced. The industry is estimated to be worth N853.9 billion ($5.1 billion) as at 2014 and produces more than 900 films every year.
