“No Postponement of PVC Registration Deadline” ― INEC
Henry Okoli
Nigerians with hopes of casting their votes during the 2019 General Elections have until August 17 to register for their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Public Affairs Officer of the Commission, Mr Mohorret Bigun, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that there would be no postponement of the deadline for the exercise that has been continuous, adding that registration will now include Saturdays and Sundaysto allow more people register within the remaining days.
“There will be no extension of ongoing registration beyond the Aug. 17 deadline. Those who are anticipating extension should go and register. From August 1, we are going to operate from 9am to 5pm― Monday to Sunday. This is to give room for those who are yet to turn up for the exercise”

The official explained that the suspension of the exercise would give the commission the time it needs to produce the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for distribution:
“The commission would not want to deny anyone the right to vote; hence the need to suspend the exercise temporarily to prepare for the general elections in 2019.’’

According to Mr Bigun’s report, 141,345 persons ―55,407 females (39%) and 85,947 males (61%) males― have so far registered as at July 30. The commission assured that the exercise will resume after the 2019 General Elections, which begins February 26th and ends March 2nd.
