NITDA gives Funds to Nigerian Universities for Software Development

The National Information Development Agency (NITDA) has released funds to two universities and a polytechnic to boost development of local Software in Nigeria.  The fund — 6.25 million — was given to schools that won a competiton organised by the NITDA last year. Abia State Polytechnic received parts of the funds for being the winner of the Software Design Architecture at the competition. Federal University of Technology Minna received funds for winning software development per excellence and the Federal University of Technology, Akure won the NITDA DG’s award for the Best Open Source Software of the Year. Commenting on his award category, the DG of NITDA, Cleopas Angaye, said, “On a personal note, I decided to take up the sponsorship of the Best Open Source Software of the Year award due to my profession as a software practitioner and the need to encourage the discovery of globally competitive critical mass of other software engineers in Nigeria.”
