The inspiring performance of Nigeria’s athletes at the just concluded Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has been recognized by the nation’s lawmakers. The House of Representatives has decided that it will be giving the sum of N18 million- ₦50,000 from the 360 Representatives – to the nation’s paralympians for their exploits at the games. The House will also host them at a special plenary session.
Rep. Ayo Omidiran (APC, Osun), who moved the motion for the donation to be made, praised the country’s representatives at the Paralympics for putting the country in the spotlight in a positive way, and called upon the house to duly appreciate them for this. His call was supported by Rep. Herman Hembe, APC Benue, who said that the athletes deserved to be celebrated for what they had accomplished.
More words of adulation came from the chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Goni Bukar (APC Bauchi). He described the team’s display as exemplary, and expressed his desire for other athletes to be positively challenged and inspired by it.
