History was made in Nigeria on 21st April 2017 when AfriOne launched the country’s first smartphone assembling plant in Lagos. The launching of this plant was unveiled by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who was represented by Hon. Olufemi Odubiyi- the Lagos State commissioner for Science and Technology together with the founder and CEO of AfriOne- Sahir Berry, Roheen Berry (MD Conter Global), Hemary Kapur (AfriOne co-founder and CTO).
The Lagos State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AfriOne stating that the over 5,000 students who are currently studying in higher institution of Lagos State are to benefit from broad-base on how to deploy information and communication technologies (ICT) for organizational and personal empowerment; hoping that this partnership will help reduce unemployed youths in the state.
The opening of this plant ushered the unveiling of a variety of smartphones and promised to offer a wide range of products ranging from dual SIM mobile phones to educational tablets and even android smart watches.
This development will bring about a progressive change in the economy of Lagos state and Nigeria as a whole.
