The Underground Gospel Lounge celebrated its one-year anniversary on Sunday January 25, 2015 in the city of Abuja.
The Underground became Africa’s premiere gospel nightclub when it was officially launched in January 2014. The night lounge is built around the principles of taking the gospel of Christ to the world through unconventional means.
Since inception, the club has featured a wide-range of controversial discussions centered around issues affecting young Christians and non-Christians from smoking, alcoholism, sex, addictions, tattoos, pop culture amongst other such issues.
Within a year, the club which is located at RENOS, #57, Lobito Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja has also played host to secular and gospel icons ranging from Ice Prince, Samsong, Asu Ekiye, Sokleva (Rooftop MCs), Sho Barraka among many others.
In a statement on Thursday, Boss of The Underground, Ohimai Amaize attributed the staying power for The Underground in the past one year to the grace of God.
“I am so happy that we are celebrating one year since our journey began. For us, this can only be God because many have tried to walk this path but couldn’t come this far. One year may be very little in the eyes of men, but with God it is not how far but how many lives have been touched and impacted within this period,” he said.
A regular delight at The Underground is two of Abuja’s finest Gospel radio DJs – DJ Lambo and DJ Ernesty who provide music non-stop on club nights which hold between 7PM and 10PM every Sundays.
The one-year anniversary party featured performances from Rymsta Ray, Christ Rydaz, JSB, Don Sam, DJ Lambo, DJ Ernesty and a host of others.
