Nigeria’s Chigozie Obioma Shortlisted for 2015 Man Booker Prize for Fiction

Congratulations are in order for Nigerian author, Chigozie Obioma, whose novel – The Fishermen – is among the 13 publications shortlisted for the 2015 Man Booker Prize for Fiction.  The highly recognized list was published Wednesday 29 July, placing Chigozie in the running for the 50,000-pound ($78,000) prize, ThisDay News reports. Also on the list is Jamaican author, Marlon James for his third novel, A Brief History of Seven Killings. The story is based on the attempted assassination of reggae singer, Bob Marley and its aftermath. Other contenders include 2007 winner Anne Enright and other writers from countries: India, New Zealand, Ireland, United States and Britain. According to ThisDay, six finalists will be chosen on September 15, and the winner on October 13 in London’s Guildhall. Previous winners include literary giants Salman Rushdie, Hilary Mantel, Iris Murdoch and Ian McEwan.
