Nigerians in the English Premier League

Norwich 1-0 Tottenham Joseph Yobo started in defence alongside Cameroonian, Sebastian Bassong, for the Canaries. Yobo and his cohorts brought their A-game to the fore as they held on for the vital win. The win lifted Norwich to 14th place on the table, 4 points off the drop zone. Newcastle 1-0 Aston Villa Shola Ameobi was an unused substitute for Newcastle United as they ended their six-game run without scoring a goal. Loic Remy was the hero for the Magpies, scoring the winner in stoppage time to end a run of four successive home league defeats. Liverpool 4-3 Swansea Victor Moses was a 79th minute substitute for two-goal hero, Daniel Sturridge as Liverpool closed the gap on Chelsea at the top of the Premier League. Wilfried Bony’s double wasn’t enough to stop the visitors from succumbing to defeat. Jordan Henderson scored a brace to guarantee a win for Liverpool. Chealsea 1-0 Everton John Mikel Obi was left out of the team to face Everton at noon time on Saturday. The Nigerian international has lost his place in the team since the arrival of Nemanja Matic from Benfica in January. John Terry scored the winner in the late stages to cement its place in top position for at least another week. Cardiff 0-4 Hull Sonie Aluko was an unusued substitute as Hull City thrashed Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium in South Wales. The Nigerian International who just returned from injury is hoping to wriggle his way into Stephen Keshi’s plans for the World Cup. Manchester City 1-0 Stoke Peter Osaze Odemwingie played all 90 minutes but couldn’t get on the score sheet as Yaya Toure produced the winner for the citizens. Osaze seems to be rejuvenated after swapping Cardiff City for Stoke City in January. West Brom 1-1 Fulham Victor Anichebe was a 44th minute substitute for defender Billy Jones against bottom side, Fulham at The Hawthorns as both teams shared the spoils.
