Nigerians In Sports: Osimhen Set To Resume Training After Head Injury Scare

  Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, is set to resume training gradually after a head injury scare during Napoli’s 4-2 loss to Atlanta in the Italian Serie A on Sunday, February 21, 2021. The club’s expensive signing will be assessed on a daily basis as he rejoins his teammates on the field of play.

A collision with Cristian Romero of Atlanta saw the tall Nigerian forward fall awkwardly during the closing stages of the game on Sunday, hitting his head on the ground before being stretched off and rushed to the hospital for further assessment. Osimhen, 22, would spend the night at the hospital as part of precautionary measures before being released on Monday, February 22, 2021. An official statement from Napoli revealed that the 2015 U-17 World Cup winner will take a few days off before resuming training with his teammates. Osimhen is likely to miss Napoli’s second-leg clash against Granada in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, February 25.

‘Victor Osimhen in the morning underwent clinical examinations and diagnostic tests at the Pineta Grande Clinic with Dr Alfredo Bucciero and Dr Elpidio Pezzella who gave negative results. The player will take a few days of rest and will gradually resume training. The player’s condition will be assessed daily.’ Napoli
