Former Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike, has joined Belgian second tier side, KVC Westerlo, in what would be his tenth professional club.
Emenike, 32, last featured for Greek football giants, Olympiakos, where he was released in July 2018. The Bulky Nigerian forward passed a trial before signing a deal with the Belgian club hoping to regain promotion this season, details of the deal is still undisclosed.
Nicknamed ‘Ogbunigwe,’ (for his shot-firing power) Emenike was an integral part of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winning Super Eagles squad in South Africa. He finished the 2013 AFCON as highest goal scorer and went on to feature in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, playing all four matches for the African football giants. The goal-poacher has expressed delight at joining the European side and hopes to help the club achieve their goal of gaining promotion.
It will be recalled that Emenike decided to retire from international football in 2015. His move to KVC Westerlo meant he has joined his tenth professional club in the space of nine years after stints in South Africa, Turkey, Russia, the UAE, England, Spain and Greece. The experienced and much-travelled footballer shot himself to limelight at Turkish club, Karabukspor, where he registered 30 goals in 52 appearances before joining Turkish football league giants, Fenerbache, in 2011.
